From the Editor: Practise, practise, practise.

Parenting, just like any other skill in life, takes practice. The misconception among parents out there, especially mummies, is that there are ‘natural mummies’ and those who don’t consider themselves  to be one of them may often feel like they’re not cut out for the job. This may be a big blow to your confidence in handling challenging moments.

In this issue, we hear from experts about how through time and practice, you can better understand and better communicate to your little one.

1. The practice of loving our children – While love is a seemingly natural emotion parents may feel for their own child, expressing this love in the right manner takes time, effort and discipline. 2. Understanding why babies cry – Mothers instinctively jump at attention when their babies, especially newborns, cry. It is important to be attentive and begin to differentiate the different types of cry to be able to respond correctly. No mother gets this right straight away. It takes time and practice to learn your baby’s mode of communication. As you get better at deciphering their cries, you’ll find the frustration begin to lessen, for you and for baby.

Also, see how 200 Malaysian parents are preparing for their baby’s arrival at our Positive Pregnancy workshop. The workshop, held on the 16th of November 2014, gives parents a headstart on the basic skills they’ll need when baby comes, so they can start practising before time!
