week 37

What is happening to my baby?
Your baby is now about 18 inches in length and measures 3kg. Your baby’s birth weight is dependent on both parents’ birth weight and adult height. By the end of this week, your baby is considered full term. Majority of baby by this stage is head down in the pelvis. However, about 1 in 4 is in breech position. Talk to your doctor if your baby is still in breech position.

What should I do this week?
  • Read up on sign and symptoms of labour
  • See your obstetrician or doctor for a check up. You should be having weekly follow up from 36 weeks till delivery.
  • Make sure you have pack up bag to bring to hospital during labour
  • You may want to install a baby’s car seat
Tip of the week
Tips on packing your labor and birth bag:
  • Prepare early for this as you may never know your may be going into early labour.
  • Make a list of things you will need for your labour. You could read further on this on the page Checklist of things to bring to hospital when you are in labour.
  • It probably would be a good idea to pack 2 bags – One for the things you will need within 24 hours and the second one to place the things for your baby and other things you need if you have to stay longer in the hospital. This is to make sure that you don’t bring too many things and be more organize during labour.
  • Limit the things you bring. Pack your toiletries in smaller packs to save some space.
  • Sometimes, you could not put all the things you need in the bag earlier. A good idea is to tape the list of things that still needs to be put in the bag so that nothing important is left behind at home
