How to avoid a Caesarean Section?

In certain circumstances, a Caesarean is unavoidable as this is the safest mode of delivery for you and your baby. However, in other circumstances, there are ways which may help to reduce the likelihood of you having a Caesarean birth:
  • If your baby is in the breech position, a procedure to turn your baby to head down position (external cephalic version or ECV) can help to avoid a Caesarean operation
  • Having a supportive person with you while you are in labour can reduce your risk of having a Caesarean section
  • Keep an upright position and mobile during labour can help with the progress of labour and hence lower your risk of having a Caesarean section for inadequate progress
