From the Editor : The Parenting Edition

Hey Everyone,

parents

Welcome to another exciting edition of the Pitter Patter newsletter. We have passed the halfway point for July and for our Muslim readers and parents, it is already well into the fasting month of Ramadan. So.. tell us, how are you coping with fasting this year… especially for the first time pregnant moms? Is it a big challenge for you? As for our non-Muslim parents.. living in multicultural Malaysia, we bet you too have had the chance to enjoy the daily and varied visits to the different Ramadan Bazaars near you to enjoy some local delicacies.. some of which you could only get once a year!

Fasting and religious traditions aside, in this issue, we will be talking about all things parenting. First we shall look at the importance of saying no to your children. Yes we understand, as a parent you want what’s best for your children and it’s especially hard to say no to their desires when they stare back at you with those super adorable pouty lips and puppy eyes. But saying no from time to time will help your children become emotionally mature and well-adjusted in the future. So read on to find out how to do this the right way.

Besides saying no, we also have some amazing ‘supernanny’ tips to discipline your child that is guaranteed to work and reduce your desire to tear out your hair in frustration. Beyond disciplining and saying no, children also need positive reinforcement and encouragement to help motivate and inspire them to not only behave but also achieve. So in this issue, we have also outlined some of the things you should and should not say to your child.

Now.. it takes more than just talking to and disciplining your child to raise them well. You should also learn to listen to them and value their opinion. So in our final article we shall also examine how you can be a better listener to your children.

We hope that you will find this issue informative, entertaining and above all, useful in your daily adventure as a parent.
