From the Editor: Taking care of Mummy

Hi Mums and Dads,

As a new mum myself, I often end up feeling tired and irritable after giving all my love and attention to my child. One day, after I snapped at my husband over a minor issue, he sat me down and told me this – “You are frustrated because you have neglected yourself. If you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t take care of others.” This little advice has become a BIG ADVICE in my approach to motherhood.

So I’m dedicating this issue to Mums as a reminder to love yourself. You’ll find that you’re able to love your child and husband better if you are not feeling drained and lousy. Cultivate this mindset from the outset of pregnancy.

You don’t stop being you just because you have a baby. Your baby NEEDS you. Here are some ways to treat yourself better from pregnancy to lifelong parenthood.

Confinement

The confinement practice has been getting a bad rep with modern mums, but yet, for fear of regret or judgment from family and friends, new mums often go through it grudgingly. It’s time to get educated about the facts and myths, and start deciding for yourself how you want to make the most of confinement. It is a time of rest, bonding, being pampered and regaining your vitality – don’t let stress rob you of this!

Once confinement is over, looking after yourself is your own responsibility. In the first year of motherhood, you may feel torn between giving up your career for your child or chasing your dreams while juggling your new role. There is no right or wrong answer, you will build your new life slowly but surely.

Just remember, you have to be inspired to inspire!

Love,
Your Pitter Patter Editor
